I struggled with acne my whole life! I tried drugs and creams. I tried face washes, chemical peels, and facials. As I aged, my breakouts lessened, but my face was full of ice pick scars and small under skin lumps which I accepted as my lot. I tried microneedling because I saw a before picture that resembled what my skin looked like and an after picture that blew me away as to what was possible. I decided to take a chance, but expected disappointment. Instead, I am thrilled. My skin is genuinely transformed and noticeably so. I go without makeup in public now. The change is remarkable. This is the real deal and my personal results are just as phenomenal as the image I saw on a computer. I highly recommend it and have no regrets.
Micro-needling, also known as collagen induction therapy (CIT), is a cosmetic procedure that creates micro punctures in the skin surface with hand held device. The puncture sites stimulate your own collagen and elastin production. This healing cascade helps tighten and improve skin tone, decrease pore size, eliminate age spots, reduces fine lines and wrinkles, acne scarring, and stretch marks. Because of all the benefits seen with micro-needling and because it has basically no downtime it is one of the fastest growing nonsurgical aesthetic procedures available.
I use the Eclipse Micropen because it is an FDA approved device. A sterile tip that has 12 very small needles is inserted on a hand-held device for each new patient. The device is dialed to different depths in order to obtain pinpoint injury.
What does the procedure feel like?
A topical anesthesia is applied to the skin for 20 minutes. The Eclipse Micropen feels like sandpaper across the face. It is a comfortable procedure and lasts about 30 minutes. A topical serum or Platelet Rich Plasma is micro-needled into the skin to enhance the healing process.
What will I expect after the procedure?
Immediately after the procedure the skin looks like a mild sunburn and the skin will feel tight. The redness may last for 24 hours. Some areas may swell slightly so it is recommended to apply ice to these areas, after the treatment, if needed. The individual will expect to have a glow to their skin. Visible improvement will take two to four weeks. Collagen repair can even take up to 6 months to occur. It is important to note this. Collagen repair takes time. It does not happen overnight.
How many treatments will I need?
For best results, a series of three to six treatments are needed. The treatments should be spaced four to six weeks apart. It is important to stick with the regimen to get ultimate results. Progress takes time but it is worth it! Individuals may choose to touch up their results a couple times a year since we cannot stop wrinkles.
Platelet Rich Plasma
If you want to enhance your micro-needling treatment then chose micro-needling with platelet Rich Plasma (PRP). Your own growth factors are used to repair and heal tissue. This process is a stem cell response. Fibroblasts replace damaged tissue. The skin is repaired and rejuvenated, resulting in healthy new skin. The remaining PRP can be injected into nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and under the eyes to further stimulate collagen production. PRP is liquid gold. There really is no other treatment like this. I highly recommend the PRP micro-needling with injections.
